Blended Intensive Programmes

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are short, intensive, and flexible learning experiences that combine short-term physical mobility abroad with compulsory virtual components facilitating collaborative online learning exchange and teamwork. These programmes bring together transnational and transdisciplinary teams from different Higher Education Institutions to tackle common challenges, such as sustainable development and societal goals like environmental sustainability.

Requirements

Both students and staff from Higher Education Institutions that hold an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education are eligible to participate in a BIP. However, participation depends on the specific programme offer and the aim of the opportunity.

A BIP must be organised by at least three higher education institutions from three different Erasmus+ Programme Countries. One of these institutions acts as the main coordinator, which is usually the host institution for the in-person activities. Additional institutions or organisations from Programme Countries can participate, but their participants may need to cover their own costs. Beyond universities, other organisations such as companies, NGOs, and research centres can be involved in BIPs.

Participants may receive:

  • Pre-departure orientation and virtual training.
  • Mentorship and academic guidance throughout the programme.
  • Recognition of learning outcomes, with ECTS credits awarded upon successful completion.
  • Access to online learning tools that support digital collaboration.

Length

The duration of the physical mobility component of a BIP ranges from 5 to 30 days. However, when combined with the virtual learning component, the programme may last longer.

For students, successful participation must award a minimum of 3 ECTS credits.

Study fields

The study fields of the Blended Intensive Programme depend on the projects available at the higher education institution, but they are not limited to a number of disciplines.

Funding

The physical mobility component of the programme is financially supported under Erasmus+ guidelines, covering:

  • Travel expenses based on Erasmus+ grant rules.
  • Living costs for the on-site period.
  • Additional funding may be available for participants from underrepresented groups or those choosing sustainable travel options.

You must consult with the International Relations Office or programme coordinator at your higher education institution about the funding conditions.
